Don’t Treat New Gym-Goers Like Garbage

It was SO nice to get back in the gym yesterday and do work - I was going nuts over New Years with all of the weird hours and then previous to that having a short break because of diet and waiting on supplements.

I was however completely appalled that not only one but TWO separate people came up to me like we were bro’s and bitched about the New Years Resolution people.  The one I just sort of shrugged off until he went away (although my responses were conflicting to him he didn’t really care).  The other I pretty much pissed off because I called him out on his shit.

Not once have I even seen the kid in the gym, he’s smaller than I am (which is saying a lot for gym-type people) and was pretty much raging about the gym being “busy” (which by the way it wasn’t anywhere near as busy as it usually is during the week) and how all these “newcomers” are just in the way.  I pissed him off by flat out telling him that people like him are the reason that resolution people only stick the gym out for two weeks before they quit coming back because they don’t know what they are doing and the majority of the clique gym people treat them like shit instead of encouraging them and making them feel welcome and that it’s OKAY that they don’t know what they are doing because everybody is new at some point.

I’m sure when we started really going to the gym less than a year ago, we looked like underweight, underfed fools because we didn’t know what we were doing nor were we eating the amount of food we needed in order to maintain the level of physical activity (and HARD WORK) that we were putting in 5-6 days a week at the gym.  I can’t stand when people belittle others that are doing something for the same goals and outcomes, whether they’ve been doing it for 10 years or 10 days.  Next time you see someone having trouble, struggling or looking like they are just having a BAD TIME give em a little encouragement, even if it’s just a head nod or a quick “like your shoes man, hang in there!” - those little things that may seem so small and insignificant, can potentially shape someone’s motivation and future dedication to their health and bettering their LIFE.

Think about your actions and how they can impact other people even when they may seem so small in the grand scheme of things; you just might change someone’s life.
